Life Skills - Tacade
Lions Clubs in the British Isles and Ireland wish to see that our young people receive the best possible education in the development of the skills which enable them to avoid the social problems that they may encounter during their school life. Consequently we have formed a partnership over 25 years with ‘Tacade', a leading not-for-profit charity.
Lions involve ourselves with ‘Life Skills’- as our International Purposes direct us ‘to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community’. Lions have decided that one of the best ways of achieving this purpose is to take steps to ensure that children and young people are educated so as to enable them to make informed decisions about their own health and wellbeing. So Lions have partnered with ’Tacade’, a not-for-profit charitable organization which writes and publishes the highest quality educational programmes. And Lions have committed through our Council of Governors to promote these programmes into schools and Youth Organizations. Our relationship with Tacade has been a great success. It is a strong and effective partnership. Tacade are recognised as a leading national health and wellbeing charity developing and delivering effective quality projects and publications. Tacade resources address such problems as excessive drinking, recreational drug –taking and addictive gambling. However smoking remains the most significant cause of preventable disease and Tacade have now produced ‘UP IN SMOKE’, an anti-smoking programme for secondary school children Together, in our 27 years, we have raised funds and produced many valuable resources and Lions Clubs have separately funded and delivered them into our schools and Youth Organizations but perhaps our biggest success is our recent resource on loss, change and bereavement entitled ‘Life Changes’. These resources help teachers meet the Government Standards for Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education - PSHCE - and Lions Clubs make teachers aware of these resources and how they may help the teacher make this subject easier and more fun. Very often Lions Clubs pay the cost of installing them in their local schools. Currently we are launching a new appeal for the £30,000 required to produce ‘Life Changes 2’ - a similar resource for secondary schools.
